RORAIMA TREK 6 days /5 nights

Day 1: We left from Sta Elena to 9:30 a.m. approximately in Toyotas 4x 4. We will have to lead through 90 km. Of asphalt road and dirt roads until arriving at the beginning point of our ascent, Peray-Tepuy, camping indigene seated in an approximate altitude of 1400 over the sea level. We will begin the excursion after a light lunch in this community in direction al Tek River 11 km away (near 4 hours walked). Through smooth hills and savannah until we arrive to the river and to refresh our selves.

We will establish the camping near the river to an altitude of 900 osl.  Where we will have the opportunity to swim in its refreshing waters. We’ll have supper at 8:30 p.m. and sleep under spectacular starred sky.

Day 2: Our goal today is to reach the base of the Tepuy to a distance of 10 km. Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. First we’ll have to cross Tek river and a little more until the Kukenan river. This it is a beautiful river of 40ms wide, after crossed we will be able to bathe briefly in its waters before we begin our ascent. Near the 1:00 p.m. we will be reaching a military field (do not worry, there are not military there) is a logistic position), there we will have lunch.

We will arrive at the camping base where we will spend the night approximately to 4:00 p.m. to 1800 osl.

Where we will install ours camping, the temperature is there to 15ºC and it rains almost always.

Day 3: Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and at 9:30 a.m. we will be leaving, this will be a challenging day, it will take from 4 to 5 hours to cross a tropical forest in base of the Tepuy. We’ll have lunch next to a beautiful cascade. At noon a nice view of the savannah down is impressive. We will install the camping at the top of the Tepuy to 2800 m.o.s.l. under a flat rock to protect us of the strong winds and the low temperatures (5ºC at night). These natural caves are called hotels by the Indians and they are not indeed the Sheraton.

Day 4: The whole day we will explore the surface of the Tepuy. Here the excursions will depend on the meteorological conditions. We’ll leave the camping at 6:00 a.m. before the breakfast and to try to reach the window of the Kukenan walking during 2 hours to reach the East wall the Roraima Mount, (Matawi-Tepuy), and have a spectacular view of the forest of Guyana down before the clouds cover.

Breakfast at 8:30 am .then we’ll walk until the triple point, where the borders of Brazil converge with Venezuela and Guyana. Approximately 6 hours away, we will see the Valley of the Crystals (sorry, you will not be able to take one as a souvenir, this prohibited, you will be able to swim in its blues and cold waters if you like and to observe the endemic and carnivorous plants and animal life like the frogs that instead of jumping rolls over their selves). Supper and walk back to the "Hotel".

Day 5: Time to return, 9:30 a.m. We begin to lower taken care of loose stones.      Lunch in camping bases at noon and after cross the Kukenan and Tek rivers we’ll reach our camping four ours ahead and spend the last night of our excursion in the savannah.  Have supper at 8:30 p.m. and spend the night.

Day 6: Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and leave the camping in  the river Tek at 9:30 a.m., 4 hours later we will arrive at Peray-Tepuy where we will have lunch soon to approach ours 4x4 to return to Sta Elena where we will arrive at 3:30 p.m. approximately. End of the excursion.
